Do any of you self-publishers buy media perils insurance, aka libel insurance? And if not, why not?
My little publishing company (an LLC) is ready to launch, but our insurance guy dropped the ball, and it turns out he's not selling what we thought we were buying, so now that we know a little bit more about what we need, we're looking for policies. Sounds simple, but it has been anything but that.
From what I read, few small publishers buy insurance, reasoning, probably, that it costs thousands of dollars a year, they can't afford it, and they don't have any money for anyone to take anyway. A couple of companies I've talked to also require that we have a media lawyer on retainer to review our books before we put them up for sale.
Need I say we have spent our entire budget already? Do we go borrow more money, or do we chance it?
