WritersWeekly.com has received a complaint about:
Full House Publications / fullhousepubs.com / Cherokee Family /
CherokeeFamily.com / Forsyth Family Magazine / North Fulton Family
Magazine / James Watson / Kelly Watson
WritersWeekly.com is a publication that publishes information for
and about freelance writers. The publication is the
largest-circulation freelance writing ezine in the world.
As part of that information, WritersWeekly.com publishes a Warnings
section on its website and in its newsletter. This warning section
contains reports about publications that are unprofessional in
dealing with writers, haven't paid writers money that is owed to
them, who have not abided by their contracts, or who have unfair
contract terms. These reports are used by WritersWeekly.com's
subscribers
to decide which publications they should and should not work with.
Your firm has been submitted to us for inclusion in the
WritersWeekly.com Whispers and Warnings section.
Step one of our investigation of this report is to gather all
relevant correspondence between your publication and the person
submitting the complaint so that we can piece together that person's
side of the story. Step one of our investigation has been completed.
-------------
THE COMPLAINT
-------------
JB (name not published here but was, of course, provided to the publisher) alleges you've owed her $250.00 for a year now. She also alleges you continue to use her material without permission (this would be a violation of federal copyright law).
See complete allegation under my signature.
-----------------
WHAT HAPPENS NEXT
-----------------
The second step in our investigation is to send this communication
to your firm to get its side of the story. If you have evidence
disputing these allegations, or would like to make your own
statement about these allegations for publication in our report, please
email angela@writersweekly.com within two business days.
***All correspondence for our investigations must be in writing and
is subject to publication.***
If you do owe this person money, we strongly suggest you read
this article before responding:
http://www.writersweekly.com/the_latest_from_angelahoycom/003628_09132006.html
Our report on your firm is scheduled for inclusion in our
publication next Wednesday, though it may appear in our Whispers and
Warnings forum before that time.
If there is no response to these allegations, WritersWeekly.com will
still publish this complaint, but our readers will not be able to
read your side of the story.
We appreciate your prompt response in this matter.

A regional parenting magazine has owed me money ($250) for a year now,
acknowledges it, but says times are tough and they can't afford to pay me. They also owe another person that does work for them $800.
Thanks,
[JB]

Hi Angela,
I will forward the e-mail exchange I
had with the editor right after I send this message. For kicks I decided
to look at his current issue online and by golly he is using yet another
one of my articles. He actually has the audacity to keep using reprints
of mine (that were sent to him months ago) even though he hasn't paid me
for previous work used. His debt goes back to January 2008 when the
first invoice for it all was created. You can see my article being used
in his July issue on page 15 here: (link removed by WritersWeekly).
At this point they owe $250. Most of my attempts to follow up have been
completely ignored. The message I'm going to send to you was a response
I FINALLY received.
Thanks.

[JB],
sorry for the delay. we are working hard to collect ourselves and be able
to pay our writers. this market has kept people from paying us and
therefore we can not pay. Our ARs are incredible. The fall is starting a
recovery for the year. I will look forward to paying you soon.
I do understand not getting paid and it is frustrating. I am sorry,
we will
take care of this as soon as possible.

Hi James and Kelly,
I'm resending this again because I sent it on 8/16 and didn't get a
response.... Then I followed up again on 8/30 and didn't get a response.
Now I'm following up again and hoping to get a response this time.
If I continue to get no response and no payment I will have to send this
to collections. Please send payment asap to avoid this. Right
now your account is owing $250, with $210 very overdue. I'm sure you all
appreciate when your advertisers pay their bills, just as I would
appreciate you paying yours.
Thank you,
[JB]
