WritersWeekly.com has received ANOTHER complaint about:

Airleaf Publishing and Bookselling - Owner of: airleaf.com / Bookman Publishing /
Bookman Marketing / bookmanmarketing.com / airleafclub.com /
signedbytheauthor.net / airleafeliteclub.com / airleafselect.com /

WritersWeekly.com is a publication that publishes information for and
about freelance writers. The publication is the largest-circulation
freelance writing ezine in the world.

As part of that information, WritersWeekly.com publishes a Warnings
section on its website and in its newsletter. This warning section
contains reports about publications that are unprofessional in dealing
with writers, have refused to pay writers money owed to them, who have
not abided by their contracts, or who have unfair contract terms. These
reports are used by WritersWeekly.com's subscribers to decide which
publications they should and should not work with.

Your firm has been submitted to us for inclusion in the
WritersWeekly.com Whispers and Warnings section.

Step one of our investigation of this report is to gather all relevant
correspondence between your publication and the person submitting the
complaint so that we can piece together that person's side of the story.
Step one of our investigation has been completed.

-------------
THE COMPLAINT
-------------

[TF] demands a refund of all the money paid to you
($2,033.00) last year and the return of all of files.
Numerous promises were broken over the past
month and recent promises by Carl Lau (see copies of
his emails below) were also broken.

See complete allegation under my signature.

-----------------
WHAT HAPPENS NEXT
-----------------

The second step in our investigation is to send this communication to
your firm to get its side of the story. If you have evidence disputing
these allegations, or would like to make your own statement about these
allegations for publication in our report, please email
richardh@writersweekly.com within two business days.

***All correspondence for our investigations must be in writing and is
subject to publication.***

If you do owe this person money, we strongly suggest you read
this article before responding:
http://www.writersweekly.com/the_latest_from_angelahoycom/003628_09132006.html

Our report on your firm is scheduled for inclusion in our publication
next Wednesday, though it may appear in our Whispers and Warnings forum
before that time.

If there is no response to these allegations, WritersWeekly.com will
still publish this complaint, but our readers will not be able to read
your side of the story.

We appreciate your prompt response in this matter.

Dear Angela,

I am writing you as Carl doesn't take or return my calls and I have been around the block with Airleaf and don't want other innocent authors to go through what I have been through.

I signed an agreement working with a woman named Penny (she resigned from Airleaf later) on March 15, 2006.

I also paid them $2033.00 on that date.

I started to become concerned when I didn't hear anything after I sent them the manuscript.

I contacted Penny in September and she explained that the "illustrator broke her wrist" and that was the hold up.

But within another month or so the books would be done

I waited until November to call and was told the same thing... then December...

I can't remember when (before Brien also resigned) I was pushed to Brien who also made up excuses.

Finally, I got in direct contact with Carl about 2 months ago.

He said they were being shipped to me that week.

Nothing came.

Another call 2 wks later.

Said they were already shipped.

Nothing came.

Almost 2 wks ago, he said the printer confirm they were next to be done.

I have done POD for years and have my books in a month or so and know that I am not being told the truth.

I left 4 messages for Carl in 3 days and he returns no calls to me.

I was advised to contact the attorney general in Indiana as well as the Better Business Bureau.

I want all my money back and I want the final copy of the book that I approved so I can have it printed somewhere else.

Clearly what I say is meaningless to them but I do ask you warn authors (as I will on my
blogs and through my ezines that reach about 114k people).

This is a scam and authors need to know this.

[TF]

Angela,

We paid $1073 for half down for our project on 3.15.06

And then additional monies for the illustrator were paid to airleaf.
One amount we paid was for $360.00 paid on3/15/06.
Another paid for $600 pm 1/1/06, again for illustrator.

Airleaf has collected from us: $1073. $600 and $360 for a total of $2,033

I have no book.
Carl is rude to me.
Can't get emails or calls to him and keeps saying books are being mailed.

I want the mansuscrpt and art work returned immediately! And all my monies
back.

Thank you for your help.

I talked to my production team on how or why things got moved around, and last time I just talked to the printer and this time I asked for a printed report, and thatīs how I know the status. I have told them
I want your book out this week, period.

Carl,

I am glad you have responded and thank you for that. However, I have been taking detailed notes for
some time of each communication I have had with Airleaf. My last communication with you a little
under two weeks ago, you told me "I just spoke to the printers and you are the next one to hit the
press". So now I am number 8? Something isn't right here.

I have been told for 8 weeks by either you or someone at Airleaf my books have been shipped; my
books are next; my books were being shipped, etc.

The reason I have left you messages and voicemails and called Airleaf each day is because you were
not returning my calls. I am not sure how somone else would have handled it since each day I called
for you and expressed to voice mail or your assistant's voice mail or by the person answering the
phone saying she would personally hand you the note, that I had no further information and that I
expected a call back from you.

Let's see if the books really show up this time.

Dear [TF]

We have told you in the past that your books are at the printers and when I called them yesterday and
told them to hurry on your books, they sent me a report that shows that you are 8th on the list. I asked
them to please make your book a priority and get it out this week.

Iīm sorry that you had to wait however I want t make it up to you; because we are having such great
success in Hollywood I will more than happy to take it there for free and present it at the pitchfest in
July.

I have been very busy and I thought that others were handling your problem which I see wasnīt the
case and just copying me on the emails.

Thanks
Carl Lau

Airleaf did not respond to us and has not responded to the writer.

We're not surprised...

We recommended she contact the Better Business Bureau and the Indiana Attorney General.
