Family Travel Destinations

For an upcoming travel column at Mommasaid.net, I am featuring new and emerging family destinations. I would like to hear from families about destinations they would recommend to others, aside from the popular ones like Orlando, New York, San Diego, etc. I am looking for places that may not be the first thing that comes to mind, but when someone learns a little more about it - it starts to appeal to them as a possible destination for their next family vacation.

Central Texas, depending on the time of year--Austin, capital of the state, lakes, outdoor activities year round and lots of interactive museums. San Antonio, the Alamo, Fiesta Texas, 6 Flags, the River Walk, Texas Hill Country with lots of kid-friendly dude ranches, state parks and other family friendly activities.
