SouthernNewMexico.com promotes travel, tourism and businesses in the southern half of the state of New Mexico. SouthernNewMexico.com contains a wide range of articles about southern New Mexico including the ususal travel variety: activities, destinations, dining, lodging and events. SouthernNewMexico.com also has categories for articles about book reviews, seasonal activities, general interest stories, history of southern New Mexico people and places, and travelogues.
We work with new writers and the web site is made up of approximately 90% freelance contributions.
SouthernNewMexico.com averages 80,000 readers per month. Readers typically reach web site through search engines and read different pages of the web site (Not all read the most recent articles on the home page).
Readers are interested in specific southern New Mexico activities, destinations and events. Readers are also interested in the history of southern New Mexico places and people. For example: many people reach our web site through searches for information on Posole, Geronimo and Billy the Kid.
We need non-exclusive, electronic rights. Electronic rights mean the right to publish the article in a variety of electronic formats, to include retention of the article online indefinitely, use of the article in an e-book, publishing on other web sites owned by us, etc. Electronic rights do not include the right to publish the article in print. Non-exclusive means that you can publish your work elsewhere as well.
Occasionally we select articles for print publication. Further arrangements will be negotiated should your article be selected for print publication.
We do accept reprints.
We tend to accept, reject or suggest changes to e-mail queries very quickly, but our response time may take up to one month.

Current Needs
We mainly require timeless articles on southern New Mexico arts, activities, destinations. scenic byways, and annual events. By timeless, we mean articles that require minimal updating in the future. Things that frequently change such as costs, times, etc. should be covered in general terms.
Payment: A flat fee of $50 for articles with up to three accompanying photographs; $25 for articles without photographs.
Minimum/maximum length (word count details): 800 - 2500 words.
How to Submit an Article
Query only to submissions - at - southernnewmexico.com. If we like the query, we will ask you to submit the article, accompanying photos, an author bio and an author photo via e-mail. We may ask you to requery using a different focus or subject matter.
Photo/Art Requirements
We typically use 1-3 photographs per article. Query even if you have no photographs as we do have a limited supply of stock photographs and, in some cases, the ability to take photographs for the article. Note: The publication date may delayed if we have to take photographs as we schedule travel to group all area-related activities into one trip.
Payment amount for photos is included in flat fee for the article. We pay higher rates for articles with photographs.
Hints
Please be well informed about southern New Mexico. We do not take articles about northern New Mexico. Focus on travel or items of interest to tourists, like historical events.
For best results, supply 1-3 pictures to accompany the article. Photographs must include a caption. Photo captions should include fully describe the photograph and identify all people whose faces are visible in the photograph. Include a photo credit that mentions the name of the photographer.
Releases must accompany all photographs where people are the focus of the photograph. |
