Like Spirit Airlines, skylights is known for its practical and friendly sensibility. This publication will be a clean, stylish, user-friendly product.
Stories give readers quick and practical information on where they’re going, what’s doing once they get there, where they can eat, sleep, play, buy, relax. We’ll present who and what they’re talking about—names, faces, music, movies, books, gadgets, fashion—in chatty, culture-current language. Our voice reflects a youthful sassy edge that—while never speaking down to our readers—informs, amuses and delights our wide-ranging readership.
We invite freelance queries for the following features and departments in skylights magazine:
Features
Destinations. Features on Spirit destinations. 1000 words includes sidebars, to be assigned by editor.
Quick trip. Weekend getaway. 700 words includes sidebars, to be assigned by editor.
Celebrity profiles. Newsmakers in entertainment, sports and music. 1200 words. Photos to be provided with story.
Departments
· Short takes. Quick reads. Reviews, books, movies, music other (nonbiz) products, food, wine and culinary corner. Word shorts with images on above topics. We may assign briefs within this section. 125 words and up.
· Health. 500 words and images that talk about a specific aspect of staying well and show how to employ that in a practical way. We’re not interested in a story about how popular yoga is; we want to know three yoga positions that the reader can explore to relieve neck stress, for example.
