Your announcement certainly caught me by surprise. It is not my intent to cause any entrant/writer distress or worry. The CuppaNews contest did pay out on the first contest this spring. Two entrants received $75, and two received $25, two more receiving honorable mentions. In fact, I received a very nice thank you letter from one of the top $75 winners.
It is true that the second contest has not paid out as yet, and should have this summer. Explanation? Certainly. Just as I was about to have the second newsletter put together and the contest announced, my mother died - tragically, instantly and without any warning. I make no excuses other than to say that this event threw me into a deep state of grief and I have just recently started to come out of it, picking up my life and writing career in bits and pieces. My mother and I were co-authoring a series of books together and had launched the CuppaNewsletter and contests as part of that effort. Continuing with it alone was too much for me to handle so soon after her death. I've never known such depth of grief in my life - and regret that my visit with this emotion has caused any undue stress or worry on others.
Please accept my apology to those entrants who have been waiting for the contest winners' announcement. If I had been in a better mind-state, I should have thought to send an announcement and a refund of any entry fees, and for this again, I apologize.
If any patience and consideration can be extended, however, I will do my utmost to update the contest website , mail the next newsletter and award the winners with their prize monies within the month. If anyone would rather receive a refund of their entry fee, they can contact me via email, firstname.lastname@example.org
and I will remove them from the contest and return their $3.
I'm glad for the kickstart you've given me to pick up the CuppaNewsletter and contests and continue on. Please feel free to contact me for any further concerns.
