I'm wondering if anyone writes greetings for card companies and how they're doing with them. I do and it's enjoyable, but not succeeding as much as I'd like.

Sorry, baby, but it's not my thing. I gave it a try. Sent off a bunch of ideas and sayings that I thought were pretty good, but everyone thought they sucked.
I love funny cards and actually really enjoy browsing through the card selections in supermarkets and newsagents, so I thought it would be a genre I'd do ok in.
Wrong.

So well done, you!

Thanks much for answering, Wendy. Much appreciated! If you try it again, much good luck.

Susie:)

I did the same thing with sending in what I thought were good pieces. I've been writing poetry since 6th grade and have had a few published. However the companies didn't agree. I would absolutely love to make even a little money in it.

I know what you mean, bwhite. It is so hard to get an acceptance with these companies. My greeting card forum writer friends think my greetings are great, but the editors don't seem to and that's what counts. What can ya do. They say keep tryng. Much good luck.

How about starting your own line of cards? :-)

I thought of it, but one the writer needs to have money to start a line of cards and so many starter greeting card companies fold. In these times, it's risky and we just don't have the money or incentive to do it with our bad health. Thanks much, though.

Susie,

You could do it as a POD project, selling them through your own website. The greeting card programs put out by American Greetings and Hallmark have blank templates in them that you can use to create your own cards. You simply buy boxes of good quality card stock at the office supply stores, take orders from your website, and produce the cards one-at-a-time, as needed!

Nancy

That's a great idea, Nancy. Unfortunately I don't have a website.

I'm sure there are lots of folks here who can give you better advice than I can on setting up your own website, but here's a link to what Yahoo offers:

http://smallbusiness.yahoo.com/webhosting/

I don't have a website, either, but looking at the prices Yahoo charges, you wouldn't have to sell too many cards to turn a profit every month. :-)
