Contributors' guidelines

Front-of-the-book departments (50-250 words; US$50 for copy and photo)

The front of the magazine includes five departments, each of them running as
many as ten short pieces ranging from 50 to 250 words, usually with one
photo or illustration. These five sections deal with people (Life & Style),
news and press releases (Hot Hot Happenings), items for the home (Buy By
Design), views and opinions from industry professionals on a question of our
choice each issue (Industry Insight) and little-known holiday getaways
(Greatest Escapes).

We try to cover as many countries in our region as possible, though the Buy
By Design items come from around the world.

Life & Style - people and their lifestyles

Short items about people and lifestyle in this tropical Asian belt. They
might highlight famous personalities visiting, grand parties, the launch or
arrival of outstanding yachts, or other snippets of human interest, each
with an exotic tropical touch.

Buy By Design - new hi-tech and hi-style products

New products, furnishings or technology for sale for home decoration,
showcasing the best, the latest and most innovative items. Also outdoor
equipment for garden and pools.

Hot Hot Happenings - the latest news in development

Current news items about recent developments in the private home and related
industries in each of the target destinations. Includes new developments,
new homes, changes in regulations, general property news and more.

Industry Insight - views and opinions from industry professionals

APTH editors ask industry professionals for their opinions on a chosen
topic.

Greatest Escapes - holiday resorts

We seek unusual, often remote, locales with luxurious accommodations and
services. Rather than big-name resorts, we prefer those special boutique
destinations that can't be found by searching a corporate chain's website.
Something quirky about the place? Even better!

* Please note that sourcing an image is a part of the writer's
responsibility with these four departments. Images must meet the following
size/quality requirements: minimum 3" x 5" at 300 dpi. (900 x 1500 dots);
maximum 4" x 6" at 300 dpi (1,200 x 1,800 dots).

Features (1,500-2,500 words; $200-450)

Regional Perspective

An in-depth feature on one of the many topic areas this magazine covers. It
should be a subject relevant to the whole region, or to several countries
within it. To win a prominent position in the magazine, it should also lend
itself to beautiful photography. It ought to include, where possible,
examples, comparisons and quotes from individuals from different countries.
It can deal with trends, events, styles, etc. that span the region.

Asia-Pacific Personality

Profile of a prime player, or simply a fascinating character, in the
Asia-Pacific property industry or related area. Subjects range from
architects, interior designers and developers to property agents, landscape
artists or just someone interesting who has achieved an enviable
Asia-Pacific lifestyle.

Tropical Lifestyle

A focus on tropical lifestyles of the people already living here- fine
yachts and boating, outdoor activities, entertainment, dining and fine
cuisine, top restaurants, tropical trends and lifestyles, etc.

The Finest Touch

Design and architecture, interior decoration, landscape gardening, lighting
design, home furnishing, sound systems and other fine touches to the finest
homes and villas.

Travel

This might sound easy, but in fact it's one of the most difficult sections
to write for. Why? We do not want to look like a travel magazine. Just to
set the tone, we deliberately published the first three years of the
magazine with no resorts and no travel stories. We will not run the standard
reviews of resorts that appear in so many travel magazines. We want unusual
takes on topics that involve travel. We will consider resort design stories.

Other features

You pitch the topic to the editor. We are looking for all kinds of
interesting stories - particularly ones that can be beautifully illustrated
- that relate to life in the tropics or to the industries that have a
connection to our major themes. There will always be something new from this
vast region. You find it and pitch to our editor in a few simple paragraphs.

Home shows (800 words; $200)

Approximately four homes & villas on display per issue

Four- to six-page features displaying the most outstanding houses and rental
villas throughout Asia-Pacific. These include houses for sale, villas for
rent and privately owned homes. Sometimes we include resident owners of the
house.

Most of these photo-based displays will be done in-house by our editors, but
we are also open to proposals from freelancers.

Back-of-the-book

The environment (max. 2,500 words; $250)

Stories on Asia-Pacific's environmental health; new technologies for
environment-friendly development; environmental regulations, etc. We are
open to hard-hitting environmental stories that tell the truth about
regional issues. As the magazine grows, we hope to pay some of the best fees
in Asia-Pacific for these features.

Planned topics include the rape of Indonesian forests, the near-extinction
of the Javan and Sumatran rhinos, the finning of sharks. We are looking for
more strong topics, and can give authors long lead times to allow good
research.

1,500 - 2,500 words.

The Monkey's Tale (max. 2,000 words; $200)

Got a good story to tell?

We're looking for good reading covering a whole range of topics. Perhaps the
only limitation is that of geography - it must take place within our
Asia-Pacific region.

Our first issue features well-known author Harold Stephens writing about the
'other' house that Jim Thompson built. Yes, Harold was there before Jim
Thompson disappeared all of those years ago.

1,000 - 2,000 words.

Cultural Kaleidoscope

Unusual, colourful cultural events, traditions & stories that give insight
into one of the many diverse societies that make up this fascinating region.

500 - 800 words.

Letter from Thailand/Phuket/Samui/Bali/Malaysia/Singapore/Sri Lanka/Fiji/The
Philippines/India/China/Northern Queensland/etc. (500-600 words; $150)

An insider's view on living in one of the Asia-Pacific countries or the
region in general. These can often be funny, anecdotal tales for readers
curious about what it is like to live in Thailand or Fiji or Byron Bay or
any of the areas we cover.

Sale & rent: Ads & listings

This back-of-the-book section carries display ads in all sizes, display
classified ads and classified text listings. It is organized by country,
together with country map, facts and relevant legal information. We
occasionally run one-page stories of approximately 800 words that relate to
property sales and rentals.
