I've been having an ache in my foot and I was sure that it was the beginning of some horrible circulatory disease or gangrene only to find that I was hooking my foot around the chair when I work and not realising it.

Moral of this story: watch how you sit- it may be killing you!

Thanks for the reminder! I have my keyboard as low as it will go, but that's still too high... so when I adjust my chair for the arms/shoulders to be in proper alignment, my feet don't reach the floor.

So I do the same as you---stick my feet back and curl them, usually resulting in some sort of ache, or a muscle cramp that occurs at 3 a.m.

Right now I'm using a telephone directory for a foot rest. LOL

You do know that you can buy DIY-install keyboard trays that drop your keyboard as much as 5"? Installation isn't difficult, unless your desk has a center drawer, which will need to be removed (slide it out and store it for later use when you change desks).

There are a host of woodworking supply companies that sell such items. I won't list them because I write about woodworking a lot, and I don't want to create problems, but simply google 'keyboard tray' and you should find what you need. I haven't tried that combo, by the way. It just seems sensible.

I use two telephone directories as a foot rest (still wrapped as the post office delivered them) and I'm tall!

My first decent boss drilled ergonomics into me. And made sure I took "eye rest" breaks. She also made me a cup of coffee once or twice when I was pounding the keyboard through a deadline. I miss her.
