I am writing an article on modern women knitting and would like to hear your stories of why yuo knit, why you don't - with fond memories or trauma connected to woolen garments made with love.

I knit to keep from going crazy! We live in the Middle East and sometimes things get very tense. So, I knit afghans instead of yelling at my husband and kids. I also write stories to go along with the ones I've donated to the PTA's Silent Auction.

I'm 22, prospective academic in the field of anthropology; I asked my grandmom to teach me to knit a few years ago. So far I've made a hideous afghan that I love and I'm working on a patchwork afghan (knitting squares). I knit while I watch tv and often when I read, especially when I read long stories online. I hate sitting still, so knitting during tv quells my gen x lack of attention span; also, it keeps me from snacking out of boredom.
