Guidelines for Contributors

We do not accept fiction or poetry.
Work sent without an sae cannot be returned.

MARKET NOTES

We are interested in receiving market notes for the following pages: New Markets (magazines which have only recently been published), Fillers & Letters, Overseas Markets (only English Language publications) and Market Notes (established publications accepting articles, fiction, reviews or poetry).

We want well-researched market notes which give editorial requirements (length, style etc) and also details of the publications rates of pay. We are interested in all types of publications from small press A5 magazines to broadsheet newspapers. Having said that, we only want to hear about ones which pay (not just with a copy of the publication in which your work appears).

All notes should include the editor's full name with a complete address, telephone and fax number, email address and website.

The market notes which stand the best chance of acceptance are those with a quotation from the editor (or editorial office) giving advice to contributors.

Length: Market Notes should be between 40 and 200 words.

Payment: £35 per 1,000 words on acceptance.

ARTICLES

We accept unsolicited articles but prefer to receive a query in the first instance.

These should give advice to the beginning and established freelance writer. We are particularly interested in articles which give advice on writing for a specific market (slogan writing, writing horror fiction, how to write for religious markets etc). Where possible include contact details for appropriate magazines.

Length: Articles should be around 700 words (one page) or 1500 words (two pages)

Payment: £50 per 1,000 words on acceptance.
