7 January 2011

Recruitment
State 8 Publishing

WRITERS

State 8 Publishing are looking for approximately 100 freelance writers (US-based only) for the launch of their new national arts and entertainment review website in 2011.

Whether you’re already an established professional writer or just starting out in the industry, we welcome your application. We’re looking for writers of various styles, voices and ages capable of delivering articulate, medium brow reviews, so specialist subject knowledge and expertise won’t be necessary for many reviews. Writers, regardless of their age and experience, will regularly have the opportunity to switch subject matter and review a wide range of film, TV, theater, documentaries and drama.

Rates of pay are as follows ;

800 word reviews pay $300 and 500 word reviews pay $150.

To apply, please send at least one review or professional standard article you have written, minimum 500 words in length. Please do not send several smaller pieces pasted together, any informal blogs, article website ‘how to’ or info pieces or anything other than a piece of writing that shows your ability to write professional standard reviews. Writers are welcome to send their application in PDF format with a © notice watermark on if desired, still ensuring all text is readable. Please email a CV containing your home address and details of your interests and previous employment, not just your writing experience, to ; HilaryReeson@gmail.com

The subject window of your email should first state your full name followed by the words ‘W.W Application.’ All applications will be acknowledged on receipt although only successful applicants will be contacted after the application stage.

Editors

State 8 Publishing are looking to hire several freelance editors (editor/writers) for the launch of their new national arts and entertainment review website in 2011.

Editors ideally should have written to a professional standard and we encourage, but don’t insist on our editors to write for us as well as editing.

We’re not looking for proofreaders, only editors with experience editing magazines, papers or quality websites. Writers with a good track record of writing for top papers or magazines will also be welcome to apply for editing positions, even if they haven’t edited before.

Editors, regardless of their experience, will regularly have the opportunity to switch subject matter and edit a wide range of film, TV, theater, documentaries and drama. Our writers will have a great deal of creative freedom, so editing is purely to double check for spelling, grammar, punctuation, anything defamatory or infringing and to ensure a review seems informative and engaging. Our younger and emerging writing talent will mainly require this nurturing eye as our established writers should be quite simple to edit.

Rates of pay are as follows ;

(Writers) 800 word reviews pay $300 and 500 word reviews pay $150.
(Editors) starting rate of $30 per hour.

All work can be done online.

Just out of curiosity, would we as a writers be independent contractors or would be considered full-time/hourly employees? I'm not even trying to be greedy, but I just want to know so I can set back the right amount of taxes for when I have to pay. Do you know or will I have to inquire with State 8?
