Yes, I was sad to hear of his passing. He'd been really ill - cancer I think. I was surprised at his age. For some reason or other I thought he was older. He was a clever, witty, creative man and I respected his talent.

I didn't read much of his stuff, but I did especially like his 2004 tribute to the Mars Rovers (I'm an amateur astronomer, so I notice that stuff). Anyway, thought I'd share it with all of you here:
