I hate to ask, but what is Twitter?

Twitter is kinda like a mini-mini-mini blog.

You write fascinating things like, "I gained 47 pounds this week." or "Junior used the potty all by himself today!" or "Buy my goat milk soap!" or "Writersweekly Rocks!" or "My husband has a cute butt!" You know, IMPORTANT stuff.

And people sign up to read your drivel because you are so immensely popular and amazing. I know this for a fact because I have at least 3 whole people who follow my Twitter! Of course, you can also widget your Twitter onto the sidebar of your regular blog or onto your website so EVERYONE can read it.

That's what I do. Because I am the personification of amazing and popular.

Oh yes, I am.

I am also in a tremendously weird mood today. (Does it show?) Could it be the continuous rain coupled with the distinctive lack of chocolate in my system?

Hmmm. That would make a good Twitter entry...

Oh, dear. We made them crash. It's now a mess over there.

Actually, we just had a discussion on my blog book tours group that maybe you shouldn't say such personal things if you're using Twitter professionally. For example, you can see that I have a Twitter widget at http://quickest.blogbooktourguide.ever.com ... scroll down a ways.... that shows ongoing live posts. It behooves us to keep it task-related. Nobody over there is going to care if I just brushed my teeth and was headed to bed, right?

But, they might be interested to learn that I've posted another Penny Dreadful contribution at http://pdreadful.blogspot.com . Go weed through some short fiction and see if you have anything to anonymously post! Then PM me and I'll arrange a drop-off point .... I mean, send you an email addy. Been reading too many thrillers.

I'll use Twitter in a more professional way when I start fundraising again for the American Lung Association.

Right now I mostly use it to post my diet/exercise progress.

Ok, here's how I use twitter (when it's working, that is):

I have 140 characters to set up and deliver a scene or a point. I must choose every letter and space carefully in order to make sure it has the flavor I want it to have, and bring my readers to the conclusion I want them to see.

I like Groovy's idea that it is a mini-mini-mini blog. That's how I like to treat it.

Yes, there are those who tweet such things as, "OMG! What shoes go best with my plaid skirt?" or "OMG! He just looked at me!" or "OMG! I have to pee!" I don't read their big blogs, either.

Oh, and Ele, I'll follow you, as soon as I get done here (but I'm not doing twitter as a professional, it's just an exercise for my brain, so you don't need to follow me if it doesn't work for you).

But I use it to drive traffic to my websites.

I did get everyone back once they cleaned up their problems... and then some. What I like about Twitter is two-fold:

1. It's super fast and drives people to your outside sites

2. I find sites and sources through other people that I wouldn't have otherwise

Did I mention that it's super-fast... way less of a timesuck than community forums. Mostly because you can't type more than 140 characters and that includes your url. I find that people learn very quickly to get to the point and that's another aspect that makes it work.

I'm following you, too... I can't get used to seeing you with dark hair! LOL. Am following Ms. Karen and Groovy, too, but I don't see them yet. I can't figure out what's going on sometimes. I miss people's comments, go to their account and they're posting, but they're not showing up on my comments. Beats me.

Actually, it's funny - my real color? (Besides the gray now in my hair) is light brown! lol. I have always fluctuated from blong to very dark brown ro red (and green when I had a mishap with an "ash" color). I've found the dark brown keeps the gray out longer. lol

I know all about verdigris mishaps. And orange hair at Halloween. Gawd. At least they though it was intentional. Now I'm gray... and actually have cool white streaks on each side that look great with the asymetrical bob. Who knew my coolest hair-color would be real?

I love Twitter. In addition to chitchatting with my twitter frineds, I also send out links to my blogs and use it to promote BlogTalkRadio segments. Microblogging can be a fun diversion for people who work at home all day.
