Welcome geechee_girl and welcome back NWC! - hope those were good work committments :-)

Thank you! Since I joined I've been doing some lurking in my spare time to get a feel for how this forum works (every forum has it's own personality - and personalities!).

I got sidetracked by a couple of ebook assignments on topics that were actually FUN and not corporate (I love when that happens!), one of which had me up until 5 AM this morning - late even for this night owl.

Yikes, I could spend the entire day just following this thread back and "meeting" all you guys. What a great site!

I am Marie Josette, living in Atlanta, GA. Mom of 2 girls adopted from China, life partner of (er, 23? 24?) years to another Marie. Most of my writing has been for my single client, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, being geographically correct for them and v/v. I cover and report on their meetings. Very interesting -- almost like getting paid to learn (is this what having a scholarship is like?) -- but I've been hankering to stretch my wings to something publishable. Long, long ago (I'm 55) I had an op ed piece published (paid for the stroller and baby stuff!) as well as some advertorials. I entered this last 24-hour writing contest and was pleased to feel that old familiar eu-stress in my solar plexus, forgetting time, etc., as I zoned out into the writing. I've still got it! Hurray!

Now, if I can just make a living at it.... :?

Welcome to the asylum Marie. Straight jackets are free, rants are expected and (if you haven't figured it out yet) multiple personality disorder is alive and well and living in this forum.

Welcome to the forum, Marie. My niece was also adopted from China (she is cute as a bug!)

Haven't checked in here for a while and thought I'd better welcome everyone who's joined since the last time I looked.

Marie - doesn't it get a little confusing around your house with two Marie's?
I get confused and there's only one of me! Image

Sometimes I think a multiple personality could be a real bonus in the writing realm! Thanks for the welcomes. And Wendy, it is occasionally confusing for there to be two of us, but since the girls joined our lives, it all ironed out anyway -- to "Remy's mom" or "Martika's mom." Parenthood seems to guarantee one also-ran status in the rat race of life!

So, how does one use t hese emoticons, anyway? They don't seem to drag and drop or copy and paste...?

Whhhheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!! ... Zubby to the emoticon rescue!!

Hi, Marie! Welcome! The emoticons on the side don't work. We get them from

http://bestsmileys.com/pageindex.htm

where you just cut and paste the image tag for whatever smilie you want.

Hope you enjoy hanging out here with us!

Cool! OK, I got the bar in my email; now how do I get it on the Explorer bar?

You get the idea, I'm totally un-geeky.

I'm not a techy either. I'm not quite sure what you are asking though. You should just be able to click on the website link in my post to go to the site, and then when you find the smiley you want, copy the part that says

[img]whatever%20it%20says%20inside[/img]

and paste that into the forum reply box. The smiley should show up when you post.

OK, I get it now -- thanks! I was confused because I got a whole tool bar of them in my Outlook program, but nothing on the explorer bar (and thought I should have). Let's give it a try.... well, later! Got a fiction workshop to go to!

Thanks for your help!

Welcome Marie!!

You will find this to be the best forum out there. I have been to others but always come crawling home with my tail between my legs.

I have learned more about the art and business of writing from these people than from years of schooling. You are in a good place now.

Samantha

Thanks, Samantha! I've never felt so welcomed! I'm still rasslin' with trying to get these smilie thingies outside of an email application. Let's see if I can do it -- I've got some on my Explorer bar now.

<a href='http://www.smileycentral.com/?partner=ZSzeb008_ZCYYYYYYYYUS' target='_blank'><img src='http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/7/7_4_18.gif' alt='I Love Candy' border=0></a>

Well, that didn't work. I really feel like a dodo now. Any suggestions? How do you do this???
