WritersWeekly.com has received a complaint about:
April May Rollins / April Rollins / Ore Mountain Publishing House /

WritersWeekly.com is a publication that publishes information for and
about freelance writers. The publication is the largest-circulation
freelance writing ezine in the world.

As part of that information, WritersWeekly.com publishes a Warnings
section on its website and in its newsletter. This warning section
contains reports about publications that are unprofessional in dealing
with writers, have refused to pay writers money owed to them, who have
not abided by their contracts, or who have unfair contract terms. These
reports are used by WritersWeekly.com's subscribers to decide which
publications they should and should not work with.

Your firm has been submitted to us for inclusion in the
WritersWeekly.com Whispers and Warnings section.

Step one of our investigation of this report is to gather all relevant
correspondence between your publication and the person submitting the
complaint so that we can piece together that person's side of the story.
Step one of our investigation has been completed.

[AS] (name not published here, but was provided to the publisher)
alleges you owe her $55.00 for books that were
paid for but never delivered. She is also demanding you forego
all rights to her book so she can publish elsewhere. She claims
she has been trying to get this straightened out for over a year
and that you are ignoring her correspondence. See complete allegation
under my signature.

We found another complaint posted about you here:

The second step in our investigation is to send this communication to
your firm to get its side of the story. If you have evidence disputing
these allegations, or would like to make your own statement about these
allegations for publication in our report, please email
angela - AT - writersweekly.com within two business days.

***All correspondence for our investigations must be in writing and is
subject to publication.***

If you do owe this person money, we strongly suggest you read
this article before responding:
http://www.writersweekly.com/the_latest ... 32006.html

Our report on your firm is scheduled for inclusion in our publication
next Wednesday.

If there is no response to these allegations, WritersWeekly.com will
still publish this complaint, but our readers will not be able to read
your side of the story.

We appreciate your prompt response in this matter.

Hi Angela,

In 2005 my children's book was published by Ore
Mountain Publishing House. Of course, I was ecstatic. I knew the owner and had
worked with her before, so I was sure I would be in good hands.

I was wrong. As my book started selling and people started getting their
copies, I started taking orders for those who didn't have internet. Then, the
books stopped coming and I never saw a penny of royalties. The people I took
orders for also never got reimbursed.

I have no idea how much in royalties she owes me, but she owes $55
dollars for books ordered. She promised to check how many books we had sold and
email us the results, as you can see that didn't happen.

I realize the money amount isn't much, but I would like to be able to
give it back to the customers. I would also like my rights to take my book to
another publisher.

This was the email the owner sent me:

To the Authors,

This email is to announce and to update Ore Mountain. Ore Mountain has
lost funding for the traditional publishing side of the publishing
service. I have been backed against the wall with unreliable printing services,
postage issues and distribution issues. I just received a small amount of
the due royalties from Amazon.com that was due last year to you authors. Right
now my website is not viewable and the server is trying to retify the

It seems suddenly Ore Mountain is plaqued with issues that does not seem
to end.

So, the outside source that was funding the traditional publishing,
withdrew its funding a week ago. Because of this... I am going to be going
over the records and will be mailing checks back to the authors that paid $40.00
fees for the books to be published.

I am also going to take the Amazon.com royalty payment and go over the
records and will be sending out royalties via paypal or check over the
next month.

So what does this mean to the ones already published... I am not sure at
this moment. I am going to go over the records with a fine tooth comb
and double and triple check that the books ordered have reached their
destination (as this has been the number one problem) and if not, I will
either resend them with a tracking number (UPS or USPS) or refund the

I have not decided on the already published books as of right now... I
believe I will be allowing the authors to either opt out of their
contracts or allow them to keep their contracts and continue.

The authors that have paid for self-publishing and still having their
work published as we speak, I will allow them to opt out and be reimbursed on
a monthly payment plan or to continue with Ore Mountain if they wish.

Please email me with any questions that I may have not answered or with
any concerns. Allow me up to 48 hours to return the email as I have been
working outside the home because as most of you know, my husband has been
out of work now for 9 months and will probably be out of work another 4 months
still. I have been working almost 7 days a week now as a Realtor as we
are coming into our busy season.

As you can see, everything was supposed to be returned to me. I have
sent many emails to Rollins asking for everything that was promised in that
email. She has written back promising to check her records and to send
me everything right away. It has been this way for two years!

I'm not really concerned about my money, I just want my friends and
family to be refunded for the books that I ordered for them and for me to get
back all of my rights to the book so that I may publish it elsewhere.
You have my permission to use my letter in your newsletter.

Below is the back and forth with Rollins:

I have been sending you emails asking for the money and books that are

last said you would get all of this settled and I think it is high time you
stick to your word. Would you please just do what you agreed to?
