Then you should just self-publish it all the way or use a regular vanity press because even they don't carry the stigma of PA. Especially if it's any type of nonfiction. You seem to be validating a deliberate scam. I think that's where the real fights occur; with the enablers who think deception is legitimate if as long as the clientel are low enough on the literary food chain. I don't think they deserve to be ripped off no matter how badly they write, or if they do.

I see you have an excellent agent and none of these types of books in your portfolio. I recognize that achievement I assure you. However condoning PA for some seems like a "let them eat cake" judgment to me. If you wouldn't do it for your books why oh why should anyone? I think that's where the confusion comes in for some readers.

Cathy, I was wondering if you had actually told her it was okay to quote you or not as it did seem out of context to me when I saw it. She claimed she had permission so I didn't pursue it. Had I known, I would have also contacted you right away. Sorry!

some people just don't get the concept that you can't just cut and paste posts from one forum to the other - aside from just being taken out of context, it's just bad manners.

:)

just a reminder that there is going to be a chat for the Washington Post article tomorrow (Tuesday) - the link is at the end of the article (or should be!).

anyone who has any questions about the article or about POD's in general should drop on by and take a look.

She had written me an e-mail asking if she could quote me, but I was out of town and hadn't responded. By the time I saw the e-mail, there were several more from a couple of concerned members saying it was ALREADY posted in more than one place. I replied to her that as long as it was in context and accurately quoted, I didn't mind, but asked for the link to drop by. I never heard back except to say that it had been removed. So really, I don't KNOW that it was out of context. I only have the word of third parties on that.

Thanks, though, for the concern! :D

Cathy

WNBC the New York affiliate of NBC will broadcast a story about the alledgedly deceptive practices of PublishAmerica today, January 23, at 6:15 PM EST. The story is the result of extensive research and interviewing.

The Associated Press article goes national on Wednesday January 25.

That's tpical of PA, but Ms. Span won't respond. "Less than truthful" reminds me of a recent accusation of me by an ex-PA author. She said I "Played the truth casually."

well, we'll see - Ms Span told me she was referring the link to her editor...

even if they do nothing, it's certainly a black eye for a company that tries to claim to be professional.

She told me she had no intentions of responding. She had her say let PA have theirs is how she put it.

They'll go down hard. Even ridiculous quotes in major papers don't seem to phase them.
